21 new outlets on Food Authority shame list
25 August 2009
Thirty-two offences ranging from dirty premises to having rodent droppings have landed 21 Sydney restaurants on this week’s name and shame list, Primary Industries Minister Ian Macdonald said.
"Several outlets have copped multiple fines for a range of offences, which is simply unacceptable for any food outlet,” Mr Macdonald said.
"We now have food outlets from 62 NSW councils listed on the website, which shows councils are continuing their vigilance in maintaining food safety standards.
"The vast majority of food businesses do the right thing and make the safety of their customers their top priority but Government and councils have zero tolerance for food outlets that take short cuts when it comes to consumer health.
"We instituted the Name and Shame website last July and now there are 1236 fines for 729 food outlets listed on the site.
"With over 2.5 million hits, the website has been enormously well received by consumers.
"Now people can see the food outlets that have been fined for not taking food safety seriously.
"NSW consumers are the best informed in Australia when it comes to making choices about dining out,” Mr Macdonald said.
Some of the restaurants making the shame list today include:
- Jaipur Indian Restaurant, Victoria Road, Gladesville received four fines for $660 each for being unclean and not preventing the entry of pests to the premises.
- Curry Beans, Anzac Parade, Kensington got three fines of $330 each for have cockroaches and being unclean.
- Chat Thai, East Esplanade, Manly got four fines of $660 each including improperly stored food and being unclean.
