Fish disease update

The NSW Department of Primary Industries is now reporting some fish caught in the Darling River, between Bourke and Brewarrina, are showing signs of red spot disease, Epizootic Ulcerative Syndrome.

This follows earlier reports of outbreaks of red spot in the Manning and Clarence Rivers.

The NSW Food Authority advises ulcerated fish should not be eaten. Fish that show no signs of red spot disease can still be caught for consumption.

Primary Industries will continue to monitor red spot disease but at this stage do not expect that there will be any significant impacts on fish populations.

For more information refer to the Department of Primary Industries red spot page or call the Department of Primary Industries on 1300 550 474.
