Oysters and qx parasite

QX disease is a parasite that affects oysters but does not cause sickness or disease in humans.

Oysters infected with QX appear watery and thin - their condition is so poor they are not harvested.

The NSW Food Authority closely monitors NSW’s commercial Oyster harvest through the NSW Shellfish Program to ensure oysters remain the highest possible quality and are free from harmful disease or pathogens.

The Food Authority will continue to work closely with industry to guarantee only healthy oysters reach consumers.
