Metal pieces investigation update
Queensland Police has extended its investigation into suspect food contamination after receiving a report last night from South Australia. This follows an earlier announcement of 4 other reports of distinctive metal pieces in uncooked meat and frozen products.
There appears to be no intention by the offender or offenders to harm consumers, but customers are advised to be cautious when preparing pre-packed meat and frozen products.
All of the products required cooking after purchase, and in all cases the contaminate was identified during the cooking process.
Because of their size and appearance, none of these metal pieces has presented a risk of being consumed, nor have they contaminated the product itself.
The latest report involves a Woolworths supermarket and has been linked to the cases in Queensland, NSW and Western Australia.
Anyone with information which could assist police with their investigations should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000
