Since its establishment in April 2004 as Australia’s first through-chain regulatory agency, the NSW Food Authority continues to work to improve standards in food safety.
Working in close co-operation with its partners, industry and the wider community, the NSW Food Authority has carved out a reputation as a leader and innovator in food safety.
The NSW Government is committed to ensuring that food produced and sold in our State is safe for human consumption and that people have access to the information necessary to inform their choices about the food they eat.
This means that from paddock to plate, consumers can be confident that through the Food Authority, the government is working with industry and other stakeholders to minimise foodborne illness, undertake important compliance and enforcement work and be the providers of the most up-to-date food safety information.
In addition to its state regulatory function, the Food Authority plays an important role in contributing to national food safety and standards. I am proud to say that it consistently achieves in the areas of science and research, public education, compliance, enforcement and surveillance work.
Through the strength of these established partnerships, NSW food businesses are encouraged and supported to do the right thing and consumers are assisted to make informed choices.
I encourage you to take some time to explore this website, which acts as a one-stop-shop for all things food safety in NSW and discover how it can help you and your family make clearer food safety choices.
