Food production
A food label should always contain information about the country or countries where the food was grown, manufactured or packaged.
There are also some production methods that must be declared on a food label, eg. the use of additives.
A range of other production methods, such as free range, organic or vegan and those that are based on cultural or religious practices may be declared voluntarily. However, when they are declared, labelling laws apply.
Additives
Food additives must be approved by FSANZ and declared in the ingredients list.
Country of origin
The country or countries where a food was grown, manufactured or packaged must appear on the label.
Monosodium glutamate (MSG)
MSG is a food additive that comes from the amino acid called glutamic acid.
Production methods
If a production method is promoted on a food label, labelling laws apply.
