New requirements for businesses that grow and primary process berries, leafy vegetables and melons for sale came into effect in NSW on 12 February 2026.

  • Growers of less than 2 hectares of leafy vegetables in NSW need to meet new food safety requirements from 12 February 2026. Requirements include notifying their details, ensuring produce is traceable, and making sure the things used to grow produce, like water, compost and fertilisers, do not make leafy vegetables unsafe to eat.
  • Leafy vegetable growers in NSW need to meet new food safety requirements from 12 February 2026. Requirements include applying for a Food Authority licence, ensuring produce is traceable, and making sure the things used to grow produce, like water, compost and fertilisers, do not make leafy vegetables unsafe to eat.
  • Primary processors of leafy vegetables in NSW need to meet new food safety requirements from 12 February 2026. Requirements include applying for Food Authority licence, ensuring produce is traceable, and ensuring any handling of produce, including washing and sanitising, does not make leafy vegetables unsafe to eat.
  • Berry growers and primary processors in NSW need to meet new food safety requirements from 12 February 2026. Requirements include applying for a Food Authority licence, ensuring produce is traceable, and making sure the things used to grow produce, like water, compost and fertilisers, do not make berries unsafe to eat.
  • Small scale growers of melons in NSW need to meet new food safety requirements from 12 February 2026. Requirements include notifying their details, ensuring produce is traceable, and making sure the things used to grow produce, like water, compost and fertilisers, do not make melons unsafe to eat.
  • Melon growers and primary processors in NSW need to meet new food safety requirements from 12 February 2026. Requirements include applying for a Food Authority licence, ensuring produce is traceable, and making sure the things used to grow produce, like water, compost and fertilisers, do not make melons unsafe to eat.
