These guidelines apply to people visiting and interacting on the NSW Food Authority social media platforms:
General information
We'd like our social media to be a hub of conversation about food safety and labelling.
We welcome questions, opinions and comments from everyone, but ask that you be respectful when you join the conversation.
Information on our platforms can only ever be a general guide; it may not be suited to your particular situation and it is not legal advice. You should exercise your own care when applying any information.
The Food Authority has no relationship with the social media providers other than through its accounts.
As a public service agency, we're apolitical.
Food complaints
We don't accept food complaints via social media.
Food complaints involve lots of sensitive detail. For various legal and privacy reasons, social media is not the best place for this.
To complain about:
- a retail food business, please call the local council for the area: council list
- other types of food business, see our information on making a complaint or please call our helpline: 1300 552 406 (Monday to Friday, 8.30am-5.30pm, NSW business days).
Conversations with us
We read all comments, posts and direct messages and ensure that only themes and helpful ideas are passed to relevant people at the Food Authority.
We try to join the conversation where we can. However, we may not be able to respond to all messages we receive.
The ways to contact us for official correspondence can be found in the contact us section of our website.
Any comment or message to the Food Authority may be kept for records purposes.
To create meaningful and valuable discussion, please stay on topic when commenting on posts to the page.
Hours
Our social media is moderated between 9am and 5pm AEST on NSW business days. Comments on Facebook posts may be temporarily disabled outside of these hours while our moderators are offline.
Language and posting
We use non-discriminatory, non-defamatory language and respect people’s privacy. We ask that others do the same.
We reserve the right to remove any content. Posts may be deleted if they are considered by moderators to be:
- Abusive, offensive or unlawful: Harassment, bullying or provoking other community members, swearing, derogatory language and expression of views that are racist, sexist, homophobic, predatory or sexually explicit are not acceptable
- Potentially defamatory or that breach privacy laws
- Political in nature: While we welcome the discussion of policies and initiatives, it is not the place to discuss political parties and personalities
- Misleading information or misinformation: Information that is false, unfounded or misleading, whether intentional or not, will be removed
- An infringement of intellectual property rights: Respect and acknowledge original creators when sharing content
- Promotional: We do not accept advertisements, requests to endorse commercial products or services or soliciting donations
- Spam or harmful: Copied and pasted, duplicated or off-topic posts will be removed. We do not tolerate posts containing links to harmful or suspicious websites or applications
- Breaching the privacy of NSW Government employees, customers or stakeholders by containing personal information, such as email addresses or telephone numbers.
If you fail to follow these guidelines, we may block your account on one or more platforms. We may also report unreasonable behaviour.
Any questions or comments that cannot be answered directly on the page should be directed to food.contact@dpird.nsw.gov.au
