The Food Authority supports enforcement agencies by ensuring authorised officers have the latest information and guidance to enforce food safety compliance in NSW.

Frequently asked questions
The Food Authority collates questions asked by authorised officers to provide efficient access to information and consistent advice. These are grouped by topic:
FPAR
NSW councils inspect retail food premises using the Food Premises Assessment Report (FPAR) standard checklist. The FPAR uses a points system to determine a hygiene and food safety score based on requirements in the Australian New Zealand Food Standards Code.

A range of templates are available on request to assist authorised officers in their duties. The templates are based on those used by the Food Authority and modified to suit councils.

Training
The Food Authority provides ongoing training to help authorised officers maintain skills and knowledge, promote consistency in compliance enforcement, and identify emerging risks.
Three rounds of training are provided at each of the 16 regions across NSW throughout year. Training materials are available to authorised officers on request.
A comprehensive ‘Authorised Officer (Local Government) Food Surveillance Training’ program is also available for new officers, trainees and those wanting a refresher. Enrolment information for this course is circulated directly to authorised officers.
